My Opinion : Lawrence Of Arabia Act 1:

One must understand, Lawrence Of Arabia is a film that should be divided in two parts, and in this review we will be discussing the first one.

Lawrence Of Arabia is a remarkable achievement, a glorious odyssey through the mystifying Arabic desert, and throughout this 2 hour 30 minute runtime we remark a few very important qualities, one is the films overall exploration of the different cultures. Our personnage is a sensible man whose sensibility makes him seem not as manly (as demonstrated very early on in the beginning where he isn’t very well respected by his more classical colleagues of sorts), and we watch as he embraces the culture with open arms which highlights something of value; the film carries a significantly ahead of its time portrayal of the Arab culture, without belittlement or glorification, it is realistic and frankly honorable. Secondly is the very incredible character arc as we see our sensible protagonist Lawrence develop from an unimportant statistical soldier to a man who is respected and worshipped by his people and who is a leader of many. But this very quick reach of power also turns dark in his overall psyche, as he quite frankly begins to believe that he is a prophet, which points simultaneously to being a social critique of many modern societies’s attitude towards those that aren’t as developed or aren’t as much in “power”, this is therefore a very careful and exceptional look on the fragility of humankind towards everything that grants power to a sole or regroupment of individuals. Lawrence’s personality features a gradual depression to madness and a falsified belief of being god, and this emotional study is another reason behind this films universal appraise. On a more technical level the film features the usual outstanding performances, beautiful compositions and most notably incredible set pieces and an almost revolutionizing cinematography that once again shows how ahead of its time Lawrence Of Arabia is. Despite having some scenes that could’ve been done better, and despite feeling very slightly overlong at times, it never ceases to amaze under its own emotional weight. 90/100
