My opinion : Paris, Texas commences on a birds eye landscape view of the great texas canyons, like an eagle preying on its upcoming victim, roaming the skies in solitude. This is backed up by an echoing guitar play that sticks well in your mind and hints to the viewer that we are in for something further then simply a film. Act I plays with our mind, sparks our predicated curiosity as to why the man we see along the film, this solitary melancholy man seems to be walking around in silence, and what has he done to be in such shame? The first 40 minutes builds on that but if I may add it does end up feeling quite overlong and of un interest, but greatness happens for those who wait and Act II picks up considerably, leaving the meditated viewer with scenes of joy and kindness between the melancholy man and his apparent son whom he tries to reconnect, and it warms our heart. It only gets better though as we reach the third act, finalizing with one of the most cathartic, well polished and saddening scenes i’ve seen in very recent memory. The film plays with our emotions of anti-calamitous quietude, and dances with that all around the use of colorfully dashing cinematography, and one of my favorite film soundtracks in once more a recent memory. And although it may feel quite overlong at first, we are still engaged in its mystery, and beautifully tragic payoff. 91/100
