Doctor Sleep
Overview
Still irrevocably scarred by the trauma he endured as a child at the Overlook, Dan Torrance has fought to find some semblance of peace. But that peace is shattered when he encounters Abra, a courageous teenager with her own powerful extrasensory gift, known as the 'shine'. Instinctively recognising that Dan shares her power, Abra has sought him out, desperate for his help against the merciless Rose the Hat and her followers.
My opinion : Instead of focusing on gory, shockingly vile jumpscares to horrify the viewer, it takes its 2h30 runtime to take its time and slowly invest us on to the characters and a story that takes our breath away. Sharp direction with good performances and a creepy new look to the film with the director adding his own style on top of Kubrick’s is wonderful. And the best of all is that all the nostalgic fan service moments happen in the final 35 minutes of the film which makes it so well deserved. Though the film does lack a bit on action and fear if I say so myself, and the ending can be regarded as cliché and fairly lazy but understandable writing.
