My Opinion : Despite its critical acclaim, I for one did not enjoy watching Da 5 Bloods and i’ll explain why. The film shoddily carries Spike Lees magic, such as seem in the conversation scenes that though are well written, I myself couldn’t invest myself into them as the dialogue wasn’t enough to carry the films weight of self seriousness. The Vietnam flashback scenes are actually quite a dissapointment, its a film with realism and is here to give off serious points on violent topic, especially that of the problems during the war, but then soon enough it turns into an american propaganda piece filled with action sequences that feel like a damn “Commando” scene, so exaggerated and over seen that it ends up being a bore to me. The entire film carried a vibe of un interest and felt like Spike Lee was half assing every moment of the film. I will admit though the performances are very very solid and there are a couple heartwarming scenes and finally, the film does preach very thought provoking subject matter; the moments of real recording featuring the gory details of the Vietnam war are hard to look at and thats for good reason. But overall Da 5 Bloods is a disappointment and a massive setback by writer director Spike Lee. 55/100
