My opinion : The Invitation is a 2015 American horror thriller film directed by Karyn Kusama and written by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi. The film stars Logan Marshall-Green, Tammy Blanchard, Michiel Huisman and Emayatzy Corinealdi. The Invitation premiered March 13, 2015, at the SXSW film festival, and began a limited release on April 8, 2016, and through video on demand, by Drafthouse Films. Synopsis :
A man accepts an invitation to a dinner party hosted by his ex-wife, an unsettling affair that reopens old wounds and creates new tensions. Right off the bat, its a very slow movie, its sole purpose is to hook the viewer into a dark, gripping, tension fueled experience that unleashes everything in the third act. The actors (whom are really good at what they do) each play a key role, most seem unfazed by the occasions and the mysterious things happening except for one character who happens to be our main protagonist who’s as confused as we are which adds more to the already extremely tension powered movie. With a premise so simple, I’m genuinely impressed at how they managed to so much with so little, added with great cinematography, terrific acting and one of the greatest last shots in cinema history. Really liked it, suggest you watch it if you’re a fan of thrillers. I’d give it an 8.1/10
