My opinion : One of my personal favorite science fiction films of all time, Children Of Men is quite possibly the most important film of multiple decades. For a world (spectacularly atmospheric by the way) so cold and void of any sort of hope, where each character had lost something that gave them such a feeling that everything would be alright, we are left with a film the demonstrates how one small insignificant thing could silence entire wars and gun firing just from hearing its cries. Children of Men is a thought provoking representation and allegory of a near future where we lose one of our most valuable assets; fertility, and so with the fading of humanity, there comes a loss of humanity overshadowing it along the way. The emotional impact the movie has had and it’s keen eye on what can only be described as super realism makes it a beautiful, powerful and poignant story that echoes throughout time. The overall aesthetic though bleak as it is is extremely well done with Cuaron’s signature long shots that prove to be revolutionary in the film works on implementing us as watchers of the unveiling carnage that is this movie. It not only presents us a message on hope but it could also be interpreted as a political statement on pro life and immigration legal and illegal. It’s difficult to explain how or what to feel until we watch the film, something I highly suggest to everyone and anyone if they want a film that truly demonstrates the power of hope in a lost and wretched world/society.
