My opinion : Green Book stands out and does what most films fail, which is to animate a terrifically written story about two men living in completely different worlds yet doesn’t stop them from a friendship. Both characters are performed superbly by the actors, and the captivatingly intricate attention to detail for when the story takes place is fascinating. Through the ride across america, we see both of our protagonists evolve steadily in their friendship, and it is clear they both have lived very different lives. At the end of the day this is a very unique and interesting exploration of racism and the divided classes in western society from the past and we can’t help but empathize with both characters. Does the film deserve a nomination? Maybe, I don’t know, but is it a damn well written film fueled by powerful performances, pristinely well lit/shot cinematography and exceptionally well directed? Yes. I don’t really have any flaws with the film except that the ending does tend to get cheesy and cliched. 8.6/10
