My opinion : Glass is a 2019 American superhero thriller film written, produced, and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. The film is a sequel to Shyamalan’s previous films Unbreakable (2000) and Split (2016), serving as the final installment in the Unbreakable trilogy. Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, Spencer Treat Clark, and Charlayne Woodard reprise their Unbreakable roles, while James McAvoy and Anya Taylor-Joy return as their Split characters, with Sarah Paulson, Adam David Thompson, and Luke Kirby joining the cast. In the film, David Dunn becomes locked in a mental hospital alongside his archenemy Mr. Glass, as well as the multi-personality “The Horde,” and must contend with a psychiatrist who is out to prove the trio do not actually possess super-human abilities. I personally always was a fan of M Night Shyamalan despite his habitual unpredictable and occasional bad films, I always ended up liking them on the first watch. This film completes the trilogy but not in the way I expected, subverting my expectations which ends up being for the better.. sometimes. The first act of the film is well done and skillfully sets up the characters with some really good scenes where we see actors such as James McAvoy giving one hell of an exceptionally unique performance, seriously, its incredible stuff. During the film, the cinematography remains pristine, leaving me more then happy as the colorful setting really does enrich the film. The soundtrack is phenomenal, just like in Split or Unbreakable and does give in more depth. What I found interesting is that each of the three acts are for each of the three main characters, the first being for David Dunn, the second for Kevin Wendell Crumb and the final act for Mr. Glass. Something I really liked about the film is the third act where we see how smart Glass truly is. Other qualities I may not discuss without spoiling so I won’t. Now onto the problems, the film was focused way too much on ideas and explaining the complex story then actually doing what a film is supposed to do, which is to show, don’t tell. The ending of the film sort of left me down because of how anti climatic it was but it didn’t ruin the movie either. 7.8/10
